I have a 20 gallon tank i got for free i want to make into a fuge...

For this to work i need a 1 3/4" hole drilled into the side of the 20 gallon tank for a 1" bulkhead.

My problem is i can do this project for really cheap except no one is willing the drill the hole. My LFS said they wud only drill holes into tanks you buy from them and all the local glass shops say it cant be done or that they dont even have a 1 3/4" bit.

am i screwed? i know i could buy an acrylic tank or a new drilled 20 gallon but then this project wouldnt be cheap...also is there any other way to get water from a tank to a sump besides a hole in the side or bottom? i really dont want another overflow in my system

well...if you are feeling lucky(i mean it) you can ebay a glass hole saw(like 10$) and do it your self. its not that hard but takes patience. watch a few vids on youtube on how to do it and you will surely save money AND learn a new very valuable skill. just note that you cannot drill tempered glass(shouldnt be an issue if u drill a side as very few 20G tanks would have no need for a tempered side...the bottom is a different story). good luck!

You should look around online for glass hole drill bits, I got mine from here:
Glass Hole Drill Bits - US Aquatic

Drilling a hole in glass is surprisingly easy. Takes about 10 minutes.
