On my cycling tank I set it up with all dry rock from BRS supply. The Pukani looks normal but the Tonga Brnach looks kind of fuzzy, the way a fungal growth would look on a fish.

Is this just the normal curing and cycling process of the tank and the rock?

There is no life in the tank besides bacteria so there is nothing to be concerned with at this point correct?

Probably normal for cycle. Is it red per chance? Got a pic?

It may be a type of sponge. I have white sponges on my rock.

It could have been in your live sand if that's what u got in there. How did u start the cycle?

I did not understand what is not true?

Some people when they start, will seed dead sand with "Live sand" from a friend's aquarium or from the LFS.... and live sand could contain a baby sponge.

IT was not actual live sand from a tank or from the ocean with water, it was the live sand in a bag that claims to still have beneficial bacteria even though its somewhat dried out

Oh, I see now what u were saying. I actually did mine with about 40 pounds of dry sand and 1 10 pound bag of the same live sand u mentioned, but I also had a few pounds of premium live rock.

I am not sure if the bacteria stays alive in this live sand to be honest... but I would think it would be considered false advertising if it didn't and it would be ground for legal action, which I'm sure a renown brand would avoid. Some must stay alive.

As far as the fuzzy spot, has there been any changes on shape/color?
