I've heard numerous times that garlic soaking fish food is healthy for the fish. My question is what kind of garlic? Is it just some kind of liquid garlic? I'm sorry if I sound silly, I just don't know. If someone could clear this process up for me, I'd appreciate it.

I use Garlic Extreme from Kent...potent stuff!! It takes 2 drops to soak or you could also put 1 drop per 10 gallons in your water as well.

I don't know of any data showing it is healthy. It definitely seems to get them to eat though if they are not eating. Otherwise, I don't really think there is a reason to spend the money, the kent stuff isn't cheap IIRC. I'd spend the money on selcon or something if they are eating.

Oh maybe that's what I was thinking of, it'll make them want to eat.

For it to act as a food-attractant for when a fish is sick and doesn't want to eat, you need to occasionally use it when they are healthy too. Otherwise, it's just an odd smell. You should note that it is in many fine foods now.

There is one "all in one" product on the market that you could look into. GVH (Garlic, Vitamins, HUFAs) by H2OLife. If you already have a quality vitamin/HUFA mix you're already using, it's cheapest just to get a clove from the grocery store and periodically soak their food with a couple drop of the oil.

Just don't over due it, too much garlic can hurt your fish.

You can also use fresh garlic, crush it put in a small cup with some tank water and then soak the food in that water for 20 minutes or so.

With the addition of garlic in the food you will see a difference in the tank when you feed. Everyone seems to come out of hiding much quicker and hermits get incredibly active....kinda cool

Garlic can be purchased from your LFS...it's expensive but I've heard many times that it is good to use.
