you can use a bleach water mix instead of vinegar. you just need to make sure if fully drys as bleach evaporates. amcarig taught me that.
i did do a little more research and it turns out the chlorine in the bleach evaporates and leaves NaCl(or salt)
so a little bleach in water would be ok to clean the tank with.

dump in 10 gallons of bleach and top it off with water and a strong circulation pump for a day (after plugging up the bulkheads of course). with a tank that LLLOOONNNGG, make sure it's sitting level, or else it will be very obvious.

    Update pic

Did a little cleaning on the tank today and got rid of the woodgrain look on the tank trim. Wasn't as hard to clean as I thought and it looks alot better. Still got to get down in the overflows and return. The guy that had this had it set-up for 2" overflow pvc and 1 1/2" return. Musta' had some flow goin on. Found alot of asterina starfish stuck to the glass. I've still got to clean the 75gal sump and rearrange the baffles the way I want them but almost time for work so here's a pic of the tank a little cleaner :p.
