    Nice first bike.
One of my first was a 1983 Yamaha Heritage Special 650. I wish I still had it. :p

Look forward to the build thread.

ha my buddy has a 85 Honda shadow..nice starter bike. My first bike (and hopefully not last) was 03 Honda CBR 4Fi (600cc) and let me tell you, those guys who think that they need 1000CC is trying to make up for something else.. I am 5'10 183lbs and I was able to get my little 600 faster than some of those larger bikes. Now the guys i ran with were all semi professional and I could never keep up with him and one day my pride outweighed my smarts and the result...crashed. without going into a lot of details I am not exactly sure what happened since I blacked out but I know there was a lot of damage to the bike (still rideable even after a 75mph crash) and a few scratches on my gear..NO helmet scratches. I was blessed that day.

Moral of the story..dont be an idiot like me and know your limits. Take the safety riders course and wear gear. I dont care how silly it looks but it's not until you ride a bike that you notice people in cars are not paying attention (I stopped counting how many times people almost turned into me or pulled out in front of me).

Lastly, enjoy the ride, it's such a thrill and an experience that you cant find anywhere else. I wish I had my bike. best of luck!

just a thought though what about some more color on the fender's or even the bike frame so its easyier to see than black? (I had a friend in highschool get hit by a truck and said he couldent see his black and red bike)

I worked on motorcycles for over 9 years-trust me no one is looking. You could paint it neon orange with strobe lights all over it and still get hit-I didn't see him is the first thing they tell the cops.
Be safe out there. There are alot of idiots.
