What is the deal with this? I have no other signs of the stuff in my tank. But it seems to grow on the pumps and cords only. then if i don't address it, there will be a foot long string of algae blowing off the ends. Any body else have this issue?

Mine did the same for about the first 2-3 months. When I did weekly maintenance I would pull them and and give them a quick scurb & rinse in my old waterchange water. Between that & dropping a snail on them every once it a while it just died off.

I had exactly the same issue dowtish
did not have any GHA anywhere else in my reef tank
except on the cross hairs of my Korallia clone sum sum wavemakers

basically its one of the few places most snails and hermits cant get to, my astra snails do climb over the body itself but never wander across these cross hairs, I assume with 1250 gph exiting at that point, they think twice about it, when they get close enough

Yeah, it doesnt seem a place where my snails venture to on a regular basis. But I do see them there on occasion. I have been pulling them out and scrubbing them, but it comes back way quicker than you would think. I'm wondering if soaking them in vinegar would help?

May help and it will also help remove any carbonate build up on there so keeping the prop running for longer
I just placed mine in the sink and ran boiling water over them periodically
the GHA goes flouro green after that treatment as is easy to rub off with a scotch pad type cleaner

I had been avoiding anything other than scrubbing with a toothbrush and SW. Trying to keep the coraline alive, but at this point, it's more of a hassle than it's worth.

I have the same issue... to clean it all off, you have to soak in vinegar AND scrub hard. I try to get all the coralline off my pumps as well, it just impedes flow, so you're doing yourself a favor by getting rid of it too...

GHA sucks... you always hear about how you need more flow to get rid of the stuff, but then it winds up in the highest flow areas of the tank...

I've had zero nitrates in my tank for months and I don't have GHA everywhere, just a few spots like this, and I'm still trying to figure out how to get rid of it all 100%!!
