    Hi there,

I have a 5 months old (by now) running 29g Biocube and recently I got some soft corals mounted on small pieces of LR. Well, I thought is gone be a simple job to glue the base of the corals on my rocks. It was not like that ...
The rocks that I have inside the tank still have a fine film of GHA (they are dying, color is brownish and looks more like a slime) and the Aquastick putty that I bought did nothing. It actually had a hard time sticking to a clean rock. Pretty worthless putty ... and expensive !.

What other alternatives I have giving the fact that the base rock is not perfectly clean ?

    Thank you,
    Marian

You can scrub the are of rock with a soft kitchen sponge, that will usually get it pretty clean. Without the rock and plug being clean, there isn't really a glue or epoxy that will hold.

I agree with you, that putty is worthless. I use super glue and you do not need the expensive, aquatic stuff. All super glues are a cyanoacrylic material, just different viscosities. I have found the Gorilla super glue to work well. It is a gel so it stays where you put it. I have actually put the glue onto whatever I am gluing and then placed it on the rock while underwater. You need to do it fairly quickly as moisture is what sets up super glues. It worked very well,

    good luck

    Thank you guys !
Surf rider ca you post a pic or a link to the Gorilla super glue you said you used / Thank you.
I was out in the city today looking for a Loctite 409, but with no luck. I got though some small super glue gel that I will try, but it is way too few for what I need.

I just use the Krazy Glue Gel from walmart. Works great. And it was the cheapest!

so the gel super glue is safe for the reef tank then? no chemicals or toxic that can harm the corals or fish?

I can't even imagine how many bottles of superglue gel I've gone through since we started the tank! Like Pack said, I would think a frag wouldn't stick if the rock still had GHA. It can be a little tricky and sometimes it takes more than one "coat" to get it to stick - put the glue on, stick the frag where you want it, hold it for 30 seconds. If it still doesn't stick, add a bit more glue and try again.

    Good luck!

Sorry I am a bit confused about using glue.

Are you guys using it to keep LR together for visual apperance?

Or are you using to glue Frags onto a live rock?

I am interested in using it in both applications.

Dumb question but are you doing this out of the water>?
