well...my ambron scorpion just died!:bigcry: Not that I am not greatly upset with every fish loss, but this one is bothering me even more!

I purchased him thinking it was a frilly rhino only to be ID a few days later as an ambron scorpion....a fish when researched says should NEVER be brought into the hobby! Also this was a very rare fish

He was doing very well, sheding his skin and grew and changed colors to a bright color..more orange red. I had him for 3 weeks.

Today I had an equipment failure and the temp dropped from 80 to 73...

I dont think that is what killed him however....this is an example of a fish I guess that should be in the ocean. Even though I did WC 2x week, parameters were perfect, fed food with Vit C and HUFA.....there was nothing on keeping these fish.

It kills my sole that he died....before anybody jumps on the bandwagon stating I should not have had him...you are iright. Experience wise I think I have what it takes, but IMO this fish should never have been brought into captivity. But I did not go looking for him, it was a mistaken ID and like I said once I had him there was little I could do.

Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel about the ID's. My LFS gets them wrong sometimes too. I have an eyelash blenny right now that I have had for 3 weeks and I still do not know exactly what species.
He was a very pretty fish, again, sorry, and K+ for your loss

Hate to criticize in a time of your loss.... but after reading your last post, It is quite apparent that you did little to no research on this fish at all.... Firstly, you've been calling it an ambron scorpion since you've got it, when in fact its called an ambon (if you've been doing any research on it, you'd know that- but I can let that go). Secondly, putting a bottom dwelling fish in a tank with no substrate is cause for immense stress in a fish. These fish practically LIVE in the sand, and you put it in a barebottom tank. Your fish changing colors is only a reaction to having no substrate or proper live rock to camouflage into. It is in no way indicative of it "doing well" as you had stated (Not sure why you'd think that its an indicator of good health). Thirdly, any research into dietary needs for this fish would tell you that it prefers live fish and crustaeceans.... not necessarily flake or pellet food with vit c or unsaturated fatty acids.

A little bit of research goes a LONG way.

Sorry for your loss, but Phayes is right. You should have done your HW before getting him/her. I hope this serves as a lesson. Luna

    1. That is black sand that he is on..he was not in a bare bottom tank
    2. OK SO I ADDED A B TO IT...big flipping deal
    3. I dont know where you ever got the idea that he was eating pellet or flake food...never once did I state that. I gut loaded the live food that he ate with HUFA and Vit C....anybody that feeds live foods knows that it must be supplements
    4. NO RESEARCH: I have talked with fish experts from different forums, from my area, done research etc to find information on this fish. I have spoken to Lee Birch about this fish and the care of it and other fish experts. I have searched the internet, discussed on different forumns etc.....

I am sorry...dont get on your high horse and assume that cause a fish died it was from a lack of research....you have no idea how much I researched once I had this fish. I had researched for a frilly rhino and got a ambon...do you know what the difference is and how to tell them apart...very subtle...MANY MISID this fish....and ambon will have a mustache and horns....other then that there is very little to differentiate.
