Don't write it off just get. Gorgonians will build up a wax coating that will turn brown and fall off. Typically you want enough flow that this coating falls off on its on, but you can use a turkey baster to get it off as well.

From the pictures, it looks like it's most likely a white polyp species which will mean that it's going to required feeding.

You can use tapatalk to upload images strait to the forum by the way.

if worse comes to worse you can just frag off all the living pieces and hope they pull through. what type of lighting do you have?

it does have polyps, they are just not open yet.

Hi eelgirl! It's hard to tell from the pic, but if the gorg has brown polyps just give it more time. I have had one for about a year now, and when I first got it I also had the brownish "sticks" visible over alot of the piece. After a month or so it had all covered over with the purple "skin" and now I have excellent growth and polyp extension. Like someone mentioned in an earlier reply, just ensure that it has alot of flow and have patience.

it is close to dead, but not too close that it cant be brought back, do a water change to get your params in check, then put it in an area with even brighter light and even more flow.

And I'm pretty sure there are no polyps. I'm watching the purple fall off..
