well after only havening a snowflake eel for months, to the great disaster of 2008 and the recycle, I added my first fish. I went to the lfs and bought a clown and a couple more snails the other day. my snails finally finished there acclimation and now are cleaning my glass. the clown is funny to watch he likes to play in the power heads, its is also funny to see him chase the crab with the two anemone, around the tank. I am guess he wants to play in the anemone and the crab won't let him. I guess I will go out and grab him his own anemone and a partner in the next few days. whats the best thing to feed him? I heard shrimp is bad and the best thing is flakes, true?

brine shrimp alone can have a relatively low nutritional value. I use a variety of frozen live food. Blood worms, brine, and mysis shrimp soaked in some selcon (nutritional additive) are what I would recommend.

I had a pair that lived for 7 years in my tank. I fed them twice a week, mostly flake food. OSI Spirulina flakes on Thursdays and OSI Brine Shrimp flakes on Sundays. Maybe once a month I would feed raw (unfrozen) table shrimp chopped up into very small pieces. The female clown died overnight for no apparent reason (no disease and no physical damage), and the male died two days later. My wife joked that he committed suicide (died of a broken heart). Almost believe her as the clown got stuck in a piece of live rock that was in the tank the whole time (tried to go through a tunnel in the rock that was too narrow, at the far end of the tunnel, and it had little barbs in it that prevented him from backing out- as soon as he backed up he got impaled). Just happened to get stuck in a tunnel in the live rock two days after his mate died? Hmmmm........

I feed my fish frozen food only, a little each day. I have a Coral Beauty and a Yellow Tang so greens are a must. I feed the whole lot some Emerald Entree, which is a mixture of brine shrimp, mysis, algae, romaine lettuce, krill and the kitchen sink. Every third day I give them a little junk food.....frozen brine shrimp. Not much nutritional value, but they LOVE IT!!! So I spoil them. Also, daily, I will put up a segment of green and purple seaweed on clips for them to munch on. The angel, tang and two of the damsels will feast on that. You just have to remove it in an hour or two.

There are sooooooo many methods of feeding fish. Some feed weekly, twice weekly, daily, twice daily......it just depends on your fish and situation. Twice weekly is probably sufficient, but since my params are good, I stick to what I am doing. That is in the 75g.

In my 10g, I won't feed more than twice weekly. Too much chance of params gone wild. Not enough volume to compensate.

you know when I first started my tank way back when I got 2 striped hermit crabs, they grew up together and my snowflake eel ate one. :-[ for about a month the other one always went over to his partners shell to look for him and would move the shell around to see if he/she was in it. he didn't eat or anything for the longest time. It was really sad, they always played together and everything. he is still alive today and I have tired to find him another friend but can never find one his own size.

That sucks bro. Try ordering one online. That's what I would do. There are plenty of places that will do a special order, and while your at it, you might at well get more stuff!!!!!! You know, to combine shipping!!
