I want to get a few different algaes in my fuge. How would grape caulerpa do in a fuge? My main concern is when i trim it. Is the lage filled with just water or water and spores? I don't want to risk having it spread into my DT.

Not sure how he got it in the DT, i've had it in the fuge for over a year now and it's never got out. when it just about reaches the teeth where the fuge drains to the return I trim it.
Just plant it on a piece of rubble in the farthest corner of the fuge.

yup, just cause i can't seem to keep pieces from breaking off and jumping the fuge(gotta do better then eggcrate) doesnt mean you can't. it is a good macro algae just not as "stable" as Cheato. its easier to snap off and doesnt really ball up so it needs to be attached to something.

That is a very nice looking macro algae but I think it can send out spores that will take root in your dt. I would love to have some but it gets out of control very quickly.

Yea, that is what I am afraid of. I think I will stick with my two types of cheato just to make sure it doesn't happen.

I have been using the feather and grape in all f my refugiums for more then 25 yrs nor and I have never had a speck in my Main tank other then what I toss in for food for the tangs,

After fighting a bryopsis Penneta out break I started to grow that also in my fuge and thats the only way I as able to totally eradicate it from my main tank and its been in the fuge along with the others growing like crazy for close to 2 yrs now and not a speck of any algae is to be found heck it takes over a week before I need to clean the glass very little algae of any type is ever in my display tank other then when I feed it .

I've had a similar experience as Tangster. I have it in my fuge and I don't have any in my display. I've even pulled rocks up from my fuge that the the caulerpa on it and my tanks attacked it.

Some people will caution you not to use it as it can go sexual and spawn in your tank, but I've never had that happen. I've also talked to people who have had it happen and they say its not big deal.

Go ahead and use it. It works great and makes for a great place for pods to hang out!
