    Hello,

I was just wondering what these green bumps are on my Live rock. The rock has been curing for about 10 days. This was taken about 3 days in. They look to be getting greener and aren't on all the rock. A few are completely covered and some have them in just a few spots. Also been brushing some of the brown stuff off that looks like cobwebs. ;D Can you tell I'm a newbie!;)
    Thanks!

It appears that the rock was "DIY live rock". They made it themselves, let it become live and sold it as you would normally. I'm nor sure what they are, but the red bumps look lie potatoes. haha. I think the bumps might be pebbles if the rock was DIY, then the coloring would be coraline aglae.

The green stuff appears to be green corailline algae - it's a good indicator of the system progessing.

The "brown stuff" that looks like cob-webs is most likely cyanobacteria - this is normal for all cycling tanks and just needs to be monitored if it gets to "epidemic" levels you have problems but a little here and there in a cycling tank is totally normal IMHO.

Sounds like either cyano or a diatom outbreak - either way just as long as it's not covering the whole rockscape/sandbed - you are well on your way to cycling.

Now is the toughest part - patiently awaiting an empty tank to be ready to make it NOT empty!!!

that is not diy rock, it is simply corraline algae.

It is a type of coralline algae the grows in that shape called lithothamnion. Congrats. I don't know on the brown stuff.

Thanks all! Just watching the changes here and there is great and wondered what it was. As for the 'brown stuff', should I remove it? There isn't much and could suck it up or let it go and it will take care of it self?
