My LFS has a 6-7 inch colony that has great polyp extension and a cool green color. My tank is a newish (3month) 55 with a 48": sundial HO T5 lighting system. The coral i guesss has been there for 6 months under actinic and MH but is in another tank under T5 and looking great. Think i should take a chance on it for $40?

If you have the lighting and space to place it I say go for it. I've read they have long sweepers and will sting corals placed to close to it. But if the op was there for me I'd do it.

Just put in a place with very high flow to keep the sweepers from extending as far. I read somewhere that it can extend the sweepers over 12" if the flow is low enough.

holy crap 12"!!!!! i didnt even see sweepers on the one there, though presumably they come out at night. Their elegance had at least 8" sweepers... I dunno, I suppose if its a bad fit I can always sell it. They seem to be a kinda rare specimin

it is nasty when in contact with another sps coral though..... Would put my money everytime on the hydnophora when in contact with any other sps.

Those corals are hardcore. Don't let anything else get near it. Some are quite pretty, though.

the bottom half was dead prior to buying, due to anemone stinging it at LFS. these are classified as a SPS, but more like a MPS if there was such a type of coral.
