    ok cool.
as for a starter tank. would it be good to start off with one of those nano tanks?
or just a regular fish tank?

thats often a matter of personal taste
many people are happy with the plug and play convenience of set ups like the Red Sea Max - which is available in different sizes
there are other plug and play - reef ready tanks

but many people like to design their own systems, purchasing exact needs rather than taking these off the shelf kits

the key to this question for me, is what do you want to keep in your aquarium?
when you know what you want to keep, then the decisions on what you need to keep them are a lot easier

    Hello and welcome to 3reef.
If you're like most of us the addiction will take hold and you will eventually want a bigger tank :). You can use a smaller tank to get to get started, get your reef keeping skills tuned up and go bigger later but keep in mind a smaller tank will require alot more attention as things will happen alot quicker due to the smaller amount of water volume(water temp, evaporation, parameter changes and such). Like Steve said,it's up to you as far as what you want to keep, the space you have and how much money you want to spend ;), but the main thing is to make it enjoyable....Good Luck!

For those of you joining us that are new to the hobby - the best piece of advice you'll get around here as a saltwater newbie is 3Reef's slogan
    "Go slow, let it grow."
And for those experianced hobbyists joining us - it's still good advice :p
good luck and post pics soon :)

Shipping from Earth to Mars cannot be cheap, and I'd imagine the local variety up there isn't too great. Keeping a tank warm/cool will be areal hassle as well.

And how will you even get water for your tank?

    All the same, welcome!

    Welcome to 3Reef>>>>>>>>

I started with a 12gal nano cube, then a 5.5gal aga, then a 20h, then a 2.5gal, and now back to a 12gal cube... Get what you can afford... A smaller tank takes more dedication to the top-off in my opinion.. Salinity swings are underestimated by alot of people....

The best I've been to in the east bay is aquarium concepts in Dublin it's where 580 and 680 meet like a block away I went to a decent place in plesant hill though not in aquarium concepts league
