I just bought a grounding probe..(I know I know slap on the hand for not having one yet) and the back of the label clearly states to not plug it into a power strip. Can someone give me an answer as to why? Shouldn't a power strip that is plugged into a grounded GFCI be grounded? I am slap out of outlets under the tank and really want this thing hooked up. Thanks for any input!

Usually it is because it uses a grounding screw found on your wall plate (the single screw found on a typical 110 outlet cover). This is not typically found on a strip. I imagine there are different types of these, but that is how all of the ones I have work.

+1, Mine had a loop that would just go on the face plate of the outlet and screw it in place with the faceplates screw Took me 5 minutes to install one on each tank i had.

Hrm, it says to use the grounding eye if a 3 prong outlet is not available. Kinda like an alternative, but not both at the same time. This one has a 3 prong plug in with only the ground exposed and an eye.

I would use the outlet, it is definately grounded using the eye hole. You should probably do some research on why they recommend not using a strip. I would guess that power strips go bad and if a GFI trips your ground may be lost. Using the ground on the 110 outlet should continue to provide protection.

Sorry for my ignorance, however, if you have a GFI outlet that all your power goes through is there still a need for a grounding strip? If so, why?
