GSP WILL close up from time to time. I have patches that always close at night while other colonies in the tank do not. I have colonies that will close for no apparent reason during the day. Just make sure they are not closed for too long as they are very sensitive to being overgrown with algae, even diatom growth will be enough to prevent them from opening potentially damaging/killing the polyps.

Watch them a little more and make sure there is no algae growth on the polyps or stolon, the purple thing they grow from

    Good luck!

I just got some GSP a few weeks ago and the whole colony will close up if there's a emerald crab or cleaner shrimp running around on it. Opens a few hours later. I don't think you should worry.
