    Hi Danny

the pink or purple slab could be the mat - this expands and new polyps develop on this expansion

GSP can be funny at times - some of mine went AWOL for 3 days due to simply changing 1 x white T5 for a 22K one

are they dead - I doubt it to be honest - but the pores can get clogged by diatoms/ algae and sediment - give them a blast with a power head or even a light scrubbing with a toothbrush and you may find they start to appear for you again

I have 2 different kinds of GSP in my tank. 1 is on a purple encrusting mat with short neon green polyps, and the other kind of branches as it grows and the mat is more pink than purple. the polyps are also much larger on the branching mat than the encrusting one.

there are several diff. kinds for starters... I had some live dormant for some time ( a month) and then they pop back out. other times I had some sorta die off and re-grow the green tentacles (if you will), or whatever they are called. those things are so hardy, i would not stress too much about them, same with the kenya tree , they wont die. also, try brushing them or put a stream of water on them to blow off any build up or dust.

Yeah. Steve nailed it. Also, this mat is pretty easily peeled off, and superglued to another rock to "frag" the GSP. From experience, I've found that once they start to close habitually, it's not encouraging news. The trick with a brush works well. If diatoms or algae get a foothold on this coral, the polyps will stop opening--this means they don't eat--this leads to eventual demise.

Give 'em a good brushing off when they're closed, and they'll probably snap out of whatever funk they're in. I trust the rest of your corals are doing well and your parameters are all within reasonable levels?
