Not had my tank long, and have already suffered my first disaster!

The weather isn’t too good in the UK at the moment. And last night, while I was sleeping, we had a power cut!! Woke up this morning and had a wee peek at the tank. I had just bought a cleaner shrimp yesterday and wanted to see how he was getting on. He was dead, and so were 2 of my 6 little hermits! The temperature had dropped a lot because the heater wasn’t on.

The power is back on now, and I think my remaining hermits and one snail will make it :)

Really annoyed about my shrimp though! Spent £14 on him and had him less then a day! :(

Ahh well, not alot I can do eh?

that sucks, I had a peppermint shrimp that I had for less than 24hrs, he decided to take a ride on a powerhead, he ended up getting stuck to the intake and died.

Sorry for the loss...... "gutted" must be a popular word in the UK. One of our other users from the UK just made a thread that used the word "gutted".

Sorry for your loss. It sucks to lose a cleaner shrimp as they do so much good in the tank. Hermit crabs die off reguarly and don't really last too long. I lost 3 in a week when they were switching into larger shells and were caught by my damsels. I would find parts of their body on the sand.
I try to keep at least one or two powerheads on an uninterruptable battery backup in case power goes out. With those running, it does help keep the tank a little warmer since there is heat transfer.

Thanks guys! The rest of my crabs survived, they enjoyed shrimp for dinner. lol.
Cheers for the tips tiger, I will seriously consider setting up a backup batter for the future. Seems like a good idea.
