So I have the opportunity to purchase a two month old Phosphate reactor by Phosban for less than a new one and I know that it is in good condition. My question here is, will this unit, once installed on my tank, help to remove my hair algae?

I cannot figure out what is causing it to grow. I feed only once a day, and only what the fish can consume, I have my protein skimmer running and collecting skimmate all day, the only thing I could think about is that the bulbs in my lighting fixture are just stock Current Extreme Pro bulbs.

    What should I do?

The phosphate reactor only removes part of the algae's food supply which in turn helps with getting rid of the algae. In order to make sure you get rid of all of the algae, you need to find and remove the source of phosphates. Are you using RO or tap water? If you're using tap then that is most likely where the phosphates are coming from.

I just did a 10% water change earlier this week. I then had my water tested at two LFS's by me and they both checked out perfectly. Then just to make sure I ran my own tests after that and the checked out as well:

    Temp-79 f
    Nitrates-0-5 ppm
    Nitrites-0 ppm
    Ammonia-0 ppm
    Calcium-400-500
    Alkalinity-7 dKh
    pH-8.1

If you need anything else let me know.

I am using only RO water either from a RO machine, or from the LFS. I used tapwater the very first day the tank was alive (4-5 months ago) simply to fill the tank up (hindsight says I shouldn't have, but 120 gallons of RO water would have been a pain to transport and cost a lot more).

I also use instant ocean sea salt mix, and do add some amino acid supplements, as well as a coral supplement, but I only do those once or twice a week.

I wouldnt trust the RO machine.. those filters are hardly changed.. I would stick with the LFS water or just buy a el-cheapo mighty mite RO-DI from airwaterice.com for about $100.. there is also a coupon code somewhere for them if you want it..

Did your LFS run a phosphate test for you too? If so, what were those results?

Alright, I will continue to buy from the LFS. Will this completely eradicate the problem? And if so when will I start to see results?

I do not remember exactly, crap I can't even remember at all. I will get it tested soon and see. If I do have phosphates, what steps should I take to correct that?

The phosphate reactor will help to remove them. It will take some time though, it's not an overnight removal. That and using a source of RO water that you know is pure will help to correct it. Manual scrubbings always help too.
