halimeda care. need advise.

    i got some halimeda from john (very nice halimeda thank you john). should i keep it in my ten gallon with t-8 or should i put it in my 29 with MH. does it matter? what would be the beswt for growing it. i want it in the ten but if it wont do good there.

    It should be fine in either tank. Just mount it on some rock and let it grow.

    rock? i thought it should be on the sand? ok ill look into it some more when im done shoveling snow :( anyone else think its supposed to be one the rock?

    They grow off of rocks in the wild. They have holdfasts designed for rocks.

    ok. so should it be in a hole in the rock, or glued to one. also do you know how i could make more of it after it grows for a while, i want some for both tanks.

    Glue to rock or epoxy into a hole. I think i read when it gets larger you will see an opportunity to split and put in another tank.

    Just remember that it is a calcareous macroalgae and requires calcium supplementation. Any pics? I'm waiting for an order to showup today with some halimeda. I'll be growing mine in the display under mh.

    yea ill get some pics. it looks bigger in my 29 than in my ten gallon. idk why but oh well. i have two clams and this so i need to start dosing soon....

    It's relatively easy to keep. If you rarely do waterchanges, you might need to add a little Iron. Remember, it is calcareous so you need to have sufficient Calcium and Alkalinity.

    Don't freak out if it's white in the morning. As the light comes on, it will turn green again.
