I've had my tank for about 3 months now and I regret not going with hallide in the begining. I have a 29 gallon tank and i have no clue where to start with the hallides, what kind? how? UV? and i'm lookin for a cheaper type. Thanks

The cheapest way is to always build yourself.  What you will need in a ballast that will drive the bulbs you want either 175, 250, or 400.  You can get ballasts that will run 1, 2, or 4 bulbs.  Next you will need sockets and the bulbs.  There are many net companies that sell all of these items.  I would start by looking into what you want to keep in your aquarium.  Once you decide write back and everyone I'm sure will chime in as to how many watts you will need.

I used my 150w halide over my 30 gallon with great success. I am currently using it on my hex.

I just got the Iwasaki '50k' bulb. I am really happy with the color so far, but it's too early to comment on the growth with it. The bulb cost me $77 delivered. I bet you could find a PFO ballast pretty cheap.

Otherwise you can find a lot of 150w HQI setups. A 150w or a 175w is what I would recommend.
