Good day all i have a 45 gallon, but havnt been able to find a good stand yet so untill i do, i have no sump lol however my phosphate and nitrate levels shot up the other day! I did a water change and it lowered my nitrate levels but not the phosphate so i was searching around and and i saw a diy mod for a hange on refugium (aqua clear, eggcrate, macro) has any one tried this? I was thinking about doing it as a temp fix untill i can acctually start the sump, am i wasting my time with this idea?

No, it's a good idea. It will allow more beneficial bacteria to grow by increasing displacement of water in your tank. Remember, there is no replacement for displacement! I have a HOB fuge/skimmer combo for my 29 gallon, works like a champ!

What's your water source? If your using tap water there's your phosphate issue.

It is actually one from odyessa with a $12 powerhead, works great for my little 29 gallon LED experiment tank, I wanted to spend all the money on lights and not much money on anything else. Great place for heater, macro algae, pods, GFO, carbon etc. Here's a pic of it in action!

The aquaclear mod works like a champ. Ran it on a 75 for 2 years.

Thanks! The corals are loving it too, really starting to pop, the zoo's looked better right away. I didn't realize how dull the marineland light really is!
