can a harlequin do ok in a 14 gal? since they only eat starfish which species of starfish do they do best on? i've heard that by the time the shrimp eats a leg (or arm) a new one will have grown back. is that true?

Harlequin shrimp only grow to 1.5", so think it would be alright. Then again, mantis shrimp need like 1 20g, but they are aggressive. Someone else should know what kind they like best.

Yes, stars can regenerate limbs. At what rate? This, I do not know.

"Even when busy with their own starfish, they will still remain side by side. These are very gentle, easy going shrimp and will not threaten any other life in the aquarium, with the exception of most starfish of course." - Harlequin Shrimp. This whole site is about harlequin shrimp.

yes it would be ok in there i have found that they like chocolatechip starfish the best. what you can do is either but the starfish in there and let the shrimp eat a little then take him out and put him in another tank to let the starfish grow back or you could just cut off a leg or two of the starfish and feed it that way. some people think this way of feeding is cruel though

I love harlequins, def one of the coolest looking inverts, almost got one but am unsure on if I could upkeep its starfish appetite consistently.

chocolate chips arent reef safe by anymeans, putting them in the back chamber may work but that alittle cramped for them. but the shrimp should do fine in a bio cube though.

I wouldn't put a pistol shrimp in with harlequins. They could very well kill them. I used to feed mine an entire star every three weeks or so.
