So i bought a tube of brine shrimp eggs that i'm suppose to put into a container or in my case i'm putting it into a 5 gallon tank with circulation and a heater and it's suppose to hatch.. is it possible that i can do this procedure with salt water and have them live in salt water? or are these brine shrimp only able to survive in fresh water? i want them to be for my salt water aquarium but not sure if it'll work? if not, i can feed it to some of my paracyprichromis species from lake tang for fresh water.. any suggestions? basically just want to know if i can hatch the brine shrimp in salt water and put some into my salt water aquarium?

Brine shrimp are called bring shrimp for one and only one reason, they hatch and grow in some of the saltiest water in the world like the Great Salt Lake in Utah. As far as I know they wont even hatch in fresh water. Once they hatch your going to have to feed them to allow them to grow to become large enough to feed. As babies, unless fed within the first few hours they are of no nutritional value unless gut loaded with something like selcon.

Check out Brineshrimpdirect.com they carry a full line of brine shrimp supplies and equipment. They also have quite a bit of information on how to raise them.

Mandarin dragonette's don't usually eat brine shrimp but occasionally one see's posting that theirs will take live brine and occasionally frozen brine.
Brine shrimp can live in almost any range of salt but you should avoid large differences from one container to another.
I now feed my brine on live nannochloropsis as it's cheapest. I gut load with various enrichments before feeding them to my fish. Spirulina, Super Selco, and AlgaMac. Most of what I buy, including cysts, I get from Brine Shrimp Direct.
