Mabe an over rated chiller so atleast the chiller would kick on to bring the temp down...but other then. That set up a heat with a controller like a finnex or jbj ad plug that into another controller...redundancy is your friend...mabe not your wallets though

huh? I was talking about a good controller, ReefKeeper, Reef Angel, ect.. Unless the controller locked up for some odd reason. They are pretty bullet proof. What were you using?

Ah, no wonder. (JBJ aka Just Bought Junk ;D ) A true controller like a Reef Angel, Neptune, etc. has a microprocessor that controls ever aspect of the power outlets & other sensors. They also have temp, PH, ORP probes that can be connected as well. So for example, in the software script you tell it that if the temp is greater than 83 degrees then powers off the heater. If the temp has not dropped, then other things can be told to turn on & off, like fans on & lighting to power off. It is A LOT more stable & safe guarded. When the temp is below your desired temp, then it turns back on. Of course you get notified via emails or texts of what has happened.

I would like to thank everyone for the help.Do all those controllers need to be hooked up to a computer?Never looked at them before so that is why I ask.

No the nice yet simple ones just have a probe and a place to plug in the heating element. They basically turn the plug on when the temp is too low and off when it is too high.

JbJ True Temp is one that is around $90, accurate to +/- .5 degrees
Finnex makes a cheaper one for around $50 but accurate to +/- 2 degrees, so kind of a big fluctuation there.

There are a ton more out there, and some people will swear by them and some will hate them.

Have as many redundancies help, because although not as often these controllers can fail as well.
