I just joined this forum the other day and I'm new to the hobby of saltwater fish. I have a 15 gallon tank with live rock thats been cycling for past three weeks and I just recently added some clownfish. The question that I have is about the protein skimmer. I have a seaclone 100 that I finally got to work by just changing out the air valve. Amazing! Anyway, my question is, does a protein skimmer suppose to be collecting froth constantly or does it stop for a period of time and start collecting all of a sudden. Is that normally how it works? Mine will collect for a couple of hours then stop for a while and stop up again. So if anyone as any thoughts on this matter, I would like to hear from you!
    Thanks,
    Paul

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Welcome to 3reef Paul.

A skimmer usually skims continuously unless you are feeding, put your hands in the tank for any length of time or when adding certain supplements.
The time the skimmer does not produce skim mate if variable on many factors, but besides those mentioned above it should skim continuously.
The problem with Seaclone is that you must adjust it almost daily.

Thanks for responding Corailline, I wasn't sure if I should be adjusting the air valve everytime it stopped producing froth so I would leave it alone until it started producing froth again. I just thought that it skimmed until there was nothing to skim and then it would start up again when there was enough to produce froth. I'm new at this so I don't have a clue. Lol But anyhow, I appreciate your input because I could use all the help I can get. Thanks again
