    Hi, thanks!

This MH shimmer I keep reading about - what's the story with that? Does the MH bulb actually sort of flicker or fluctuate naturally? I'm guessing it's a nice characteristic to simulate the caustics of the ocean surface(?)

When you start your LED system, let me know. I'll be more than happy to bounce ideas back and forth. I've got the hardware pretty much figured out. I just need to better understand the needs of reefs and apply some programming, control and celestial data.

It doesn't actually do anything. It's just pleasing to the eye because that's what it looks like if diving in the ocean.

I think it comes from the focus of the light of a MH and LED, both being fairly directional and T5s give off a more uniform light.

Sure will...mine will be simple though...no programming yet anyway....dunno how much one would be and would want it on a timer....something like that'd be more than a programmable EL wire control box which I can't afford ATM (well for the project I wanted it for anyway, wasn't worth the extra cost...is worth it for the reef now that I think about it...mmmmm)

Cool, the shimmer is what I thought it was. Shouldn't be too difficult to simulate and still look natural. Interesting though because the MH is a singular (or very few) "point" source of light. The LEDs will be many points spread out.
