Hi everybody. I came across this site when doing research for setting up my first saltwater, looks like a lot of good info here so I joined on. Already helped me on one step, after reading several threads on protein skimmers I decided to order the aqua c remora rather than buy some other brand available at the local store.

I've had freshwater tanks since I was a kid, just got a 55 gallon and decided to jump into the ocean world. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions about pretty much everything, being from Nebraska I can't say that I have a lot of ocean experience to draw from :) So thanks for the help already and I hope I won't be too much of a pest as I work through setting this thing up.

One quick question for starters, and I'll likely post this in the live rock section as well. Can the internet dealers be trusted? There is a LARGE price difference between them and the local guy, unfortunately as much as I'd like to support the local I don't think their expertise level is that high either (very limited selection, didn't answer questions very directly). And if I do buy through the internet should I concentrate on the higher grades?

One last note - if anyone knows of a good store to deal with locally I'd appreciate the suggestion. I'm about an hour from Lincoln and two hours from Omaha.

Welcome to the "dark art" of SW aquarium keeping. ;)

Excellent choice on skimmer. You are off to a very good start.

The internet certainly can be trusted when dealing with the large retailers.

Look around for a responsible LFS.

I bought almost all livestock from LFS. Most importantly, I want to see what I am buying - his prices are usually much better then on web, not to mention shipping. And he is a very knowledgeable resource I want to keep in business.

But for dry goods and support equipment are much much cheaper on internet...no way he can compete. We have some great sponsors here on 3Reef that can meet just about all of your needs.

    Have fun, good luck.
