Hi there... I am really new to this saltwater adventure! I will probably have lots and lots of questions (some may be really stupid!).

A few months ago I bought a 46 gal bowfront saltwater aquarium complete with some live rock and fish. I had a 55 tank and wanted to split this between two tanks. The lady I bought tank from tried to tell me that this red slime was what made the tank beautiful! (I didn't think it was too beautiful!) Anyway...I cycled the 55 and added a few fish, some snails, and crabs and most of the red slime was cleared up. There is no coralline algae growing in this tank as far as I can tell. The 46 has a few fish, snails, crabs, and brittle stars in it and the coralline algae is growing ok and there are some baby feather dusters( as far as I can tell).

OK Here's my question of the day...I am in the process of curing some diy live rock and when it is done curing I am wondering which tank to add it to to get coralline algae. Do I put it in the tank with the coralline or do I put it in the 55 and take a few pieces out of the 46 to encourage growth? Is there a way to speed up the process? I would like to get some corals this summer. thanks in advance for everyone's help!

Welcome to 3reef. Once you get the rock done you need to seed for coralline. Do this by turning all the pumps off for about 2 hrs. Take a piece of rock with coralline on it and crumble it up with a pair of pliers and let it settle on the new rock. Keep the pumps off will allow the spores to settle on the rock.

This is just how I do it as there is others that will want you to add chemicals but I don't' like faking what Mother nature will do with time.
