Hello everyone, new member here. Originally a long time lurker over at RC. Been in the hobby for about 9 years now. Currently I have a 90 gallon cube tank, but I'm in the process of downgrading (again) to something smaller. Where I live (Woodland), there isn't much of anything in terms of salt-water/reef stores.

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone could give any advice about blackbugs? Basically my current tank has been up and running for about 9 months now. Everything was great up until a month ago when all my SPS corals suddenly just stopped growing, closing up, and slowly losing tissue. I don't have any AEFW, nudibranch, or redbugs (as I treated all corals and eggs for interceptor). While some of my SPS have completely died, some are still alive, or at least holding on. I've tried dipping the surviving ones in interceptor and Revive but not much has changed. My tank's parameter's are stable (PH 8.2, Phos undetectable, nitrate 0, etc). The funny thing is all my LPS corals and clams are doing just fine, but my SPS are completely the opposite.
Now the reason I originally mentioned blackbugs if because upon removing the surviving corals I noticed some tiny (smaller than a grain of rice) bugs/ticks crawling around.

I'm really confused and about to just treat everything again and move it all to another tank.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,
    Ryan

    Hello from Dana Point, CA;D

Sorry, but I'm not familiar with your situation/problem...so I'm going to leave it to the experts here. Sounds like a serious problem though, hopefully it can get corrected before you lose anything else!

    Good luck & welcome!

are your bulbs getting old? 9-12months on t5s maybe your SPS are telling you something.. maybe bulbs have lost intensity and color has shifted.. just FYI

pictures of black bugs might help the experts on here..

+1 on pictures - may also want to post this in the coral health thread
as many of the serious SPS heads on here dont visit every new members say hello thread

we can eliminate amphipods and copepods I assume ?
google those 2 words if your not sure what they are

sorry if thats not what they are
but get some images up and give all your tank specs, lighting, flow, equipment etc
as if the bugs are just harmless scavengers like amphipods and copepods, then we need to find out whats irritating your corals
