Just joined 3reef today although I'm not all that new to the hobby. I've been keeping reef tanks for 7 years now. Started with a 12 gallon nanocube (I know, I know, starting small is *usually* frowned upon but -miracle of miracles- it was very successful!) :cheesy: Added a 28 gallon nano to the family a year and a half ago and just recently bought a 55 gallon FOWLR setup from a friend. Looking to turn it into a reef tank but I'm going to take my time with it so my husband doesn't freak out about the money spent! :goldfish:
So for now I'm just saying hello and going back to obsessively reading posts. There's a LOT of great information floating around these forums!

I used to live in Rockledge FL! Actually I worked in Rockledge at the hopital,
and lived on the beach in Cocoa Beach.

    Welcome to 3Reef!!

As far as costs go- try and stay clear of the lfs for livestock like coral, etc.'

I"ll bet within an hour of you are many reefers willing to give/trade/sell frags at a reasonable cost!

Welcome to 3reef! I'm new as well, I spend most of the time reading back posts from before because so many of my questions have been answered in the past. I'm looking forward to pictures of your tank!

thank you all! It's so funny that within a day of posting this I find 2 people from my area! That surprises me because I always think of Brevard Co. as being so small town.. I went to high school in Cocoa Beach and I work in Cocoa. So there's at least one person nearby I could hit up for frags.. ;) And that was excellent advice, by the way. I've only ever gotten stuff from the fish store, one of my other tanks or my dad's 95 gallon reef. I probably would have joined a long time ago if I thought about buying/trading with others in the area! DUH!
Yes, this does seem to be a male dominated hobby, and I don't really understand why. Oh well, just something to set us apart from the rest :)
Pics coming soon! ... As soon as I figure out how to do that! LOL
