Have been snoping around the forum most of the day. Glad I found it! We are currently in the process of setting a 150 gal. reef up. As of now we have the gear and the sand waiting for my DYI rock to cure out. Then on to live rock and so on and so on. One question that has developed is this. Should I go with LR from a supplier on line that is premo stuff with all the oceanic critters or just the bacteria ladden stuff from the LFS?

    Welcome to 3reef.

If I had a choice I would go with the LR on line, but remember it's not cured and there will be certain amount of die off.

Cured LR from the local fish store can come with unwelcome critters as well, such as aiptasia, majano, undesired algae types.....

Very debatable, its a roll of the dice IMO. Yah can get good and bad hitchhikers either way. Personally, I like the risk and rewards of LR, but others don't;) Sorry this isn't much help, but it really seems to be a personal choice. You run a risk with either. you can always just add a product like Dr Tims 1 and only and avoid all the potential problems, but that isnt nearly as fun as the cool things that show up in your tank when ya get LR;)

Welcome to 3reef Gus, I agree with both answers.

Just check the LFS rock out for unwanted hitchhikers before buying if you go that way.
