hello

hi there i have a 200liter marine tank its been set up for 3months now its like one of my babies and my kids love it.i didnt know i would get so it to it.i have 2 clownfish,1 green chrioms, a yellow tang and blue tang.my coarls are mushrooms,button polp and starburst polyp with a giant mushroom cup my intverts are different hermit crabs and two snails with live rock.i had too learn the hard way, i got to much to early and the place i got all my stuff from didnt have a clue so now im going slowing and reading up on things keeping my water perfect and looking after the stuff i got

my giant mushroom cup which was fine for the first two weeks but now its looks like its melting and brown stuff keeps coming out and the mouth in the middle is open really big at night you can see its insides and a bit of rock but its fine in the day ? im new to this and need help. forgot to add my water levels are fine and im feeding it once a day, the fish wot go near it and there are no other corals near him

 

sexyJ - is the coral you are talking about often called Elephant ear ?

its like a giant mushroom?

if so , thats very common for them- they expell waste through that mouth hole and thats the brown stuff you see
they expell most of the fluid inside them at night, along with the waste and then take in new water and expand again

word of caution if it is this species - they can and do form a ball shape, fish are attracted in to eat the waste and once in the coral closes up around the fish and the fish cant get out

thank you steve when i ask pets at home they told me my clown fish would love it not knowing the thing eats fish i would of never brought it thats why im reading up on everything now.but its not as big when i brought it and can see a lot of rock when you look in side the mouth bit, its like its spiltting

 

can you post a picture? as maybe my ID is not correct
maybe its a nem? and nems in general dont like very new tanks and some species require a lot of light
