When I woke up this morning my Blue Hippo Tang appeared happy and healthy. It ate flake food readily out of my hand and was thrashing the nori I placed in the tank.

Around 2:00 I had a power failure and the lights, powerheads, and everything else went out for about 2 minutes. I am sure it scared the fish as it was so sudden. Once the power came back on i noticed a large white spot (not ich, I know what that is for she has had it before) and is now failing to use her right fin!

What could have happened? I was thinking she may have freaked out and hit a rock in the tank. Is there anything I can do for her?

I soak all the food in garlic and GvH so I hope that will help to rebuild her strength.

From what you say it might be a result of the recent event. I'd probably not sweat it unless the fish stops eating or makes itself scarce.

    Good luck. :)

Feed well, then turn off the lights early. Here's the REALLY HARD ONE....don't go stare at her. Let her rest.

So it is probably just injured?

It eats like a vacuum, every piece of food that goes in the tank is primarily eaten by the tang.

That is going to be the hardest part. But luckily (or unluckily depending on how you look at it) I will be in class from 6:00 - 9:30 so will be unable to look at her and stress over it.

I will feed and turn off the lights as soon as I get home. Thanks.

Do make sure to implement vitamins into her diet so her immune system can fight any possible infections. You don't want to develop fin rot.

..hope al is well...as the advice states...your stressing more than the fish...tangs are fast as can be...like a bullet at times...I was rid of mine when I discovered 90 gallons was just not enough real estate for that fish....but white spots from injury in the tank...seen a few on mine here and there ...they always disappeared in a day or two..thats my experience.
Good Luck...go have a shot or something...dont we just freak out when something is amiss in our tanks ? LOL...its comical at times. .... not saying this is funny...just sometimes it is over the top....cheers !

Well thank you everyone for the prompt resonses. I most definitely overreacted as now the Blue Hippo Tang is as happy as can be again and showing no signs of injury.

The white spot is completely gone and the right fin is in full use again. I must have been that the tang hit a rock or something when spooked.

It is quite funny that everyone knows their tanks so intimately that we can immediately tell that something is amiss and out of place. One more reason thought to love the hobby. :)
