    • Eight days ago i set up my 30 gallon Biocube tank and that included the following: Live sand covering the bottom, 60lbs of live rock, saltwater "start zime", and a few crabs for bioload. The tank has been running for eight days and there has been a blooming of brown and light green growth on the rock and sand. A cupple of days ago i added a damselfish and last night i tested the ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites and everything is STILL at 0ppm. Is my tank cycling? is anything wrong? I would much appreciate help :).

im a newbie here & to all this saltwater stuff & well im not sure if im correct & i wouldn't say base all decisions on my comment...
so on that note, i don't think anything you have in your tank will live... you needed to get a got months worth of cycling time before adding fish.. now your live rock & live sand will help with cycling but from what i have read & from whom i have chatted with, the way i understand it is that you put all that stuff but the fish & then put in some bacteria, or i have been told a piece of table shrimp to start cycling process... you have to have the bacteria for it to cycle correctly... then when you have your ammonia & nitrates correct you can slowly add your fish...

hope this helps & please search this sight to verify i am correct....

Might be diatoms, which could mean the cycle completed.

That could be just from all of the LR, you have 60lbs in a 30G ? and sand also... make sure you know that means you actually have A LOT less then 30G of water in there, so Swift changes can happen easier as the less water you have the less stable your ecosystem will be. i would give it 2 weeks more with what you have in there now and monitor them and see if they die and when you notice something dead, test to see what killed em.
