Help PLEASE!!!!

I have a 55 gal tank...I wanted to see if I would be deligent in keeping a salt water aquarium as I have been with fresh water for so many years.
I opted to start small, just to get my feet wet, and then invest in a serious system with all the bells and whistles. But after a smooth transition with the params. and fish doing well, I lost control and bought the tiny blue tang and small yellow tang within 2 weeks of eachother. I have learned my lesson the hard and expensive way. :

I will continue on with what I have and see how things go, and possibly in the near future upgrade system and try again with the blue tang.

 

Yeah a 55 can support a baby blue and yellow with REALLY good filtering/skimming but not for long

They get fairly large fairly fast, when you purchase fish like please either be ready and willing to trade them back to the fish store for credit or a friend with a bigger tank or upgrade yourself to keep up with their growth, at full size you really cant get by lower than a 90g tank with those 2 fish as they get fairly large

 

Your correct in saying that, I knew that by me purchasing a tiny tang I could enjoy her for a least a year and then make the step to a 100 gal or better. I realize these cute creatures need room to grow and I would be insensitive in keeping them in tight envioronment.

 

I agree about the damsels bullying and possibly stressing the tangs to death and this could be why you are seeing simptoms of ich on the yellow get rid of the damsels

on a side note tangs are very sensitive to things that can stress them I lost a powder brown by the simple act of adding sand to my tank it didn't like the color change and up and died on me

also use extreem caution when introducing new tangs with established ones as they can be very aggresive toward each other in these situations

Im sorry for your loss, Yes, damsels can be and are aggressive towards any fish. Im not crazy about damsels, except clowns.

I am happy to report that the on set of ick is gone. I purchased a blue cleaner wrasse and so far so good. I really enjoy seeing the damsels (blue/yellow) bi-colour, but your right if the continue to bother the others I will have no choice but to remove them. They stay away from the yellow tang, I believe they bullied the blue tang because she was just about the same size of them.

I look forward to one day adding a blue tang to my system (by then a much larger tank).

Lissa, I can always tell when I need to add some nori on a clip for my yellow tang...he gets a little pale. Nori is the green marine algae sheets, put some on a clip and he will love you not to mention brighten up.

 

I currently switch between the algae sheets and a leaf of romain lettuce.

I was giving him 1/4 of the sheet and I would leave it in 12hrs. I noticed it being eaten quickly, so I decided to increase the size and now the cleaner wrasse eats it as well.

I noticed that the lettuce gets wilted fast, I leave it over night and then remove it.

How often do you feed the strips ?. He eats Formula One with the others, which I feed once a day in the morning.

Your right, I do notice the yellow become brighter after he eats the algae.

 

I feed 3(3"X1") sheet of seaweed daily.
