A couple of days ago i came in to find my tank cloudy as could be. Did a water change and its still cloudy yes i have a skimmer and i am running carbon. What can i do to clear the tank up its a major eye sore atm. Params read 0 ammonia 0 phos. .5 nitrate 0 nitrite p.h 8. Plz help this was from 4 days ago ive changed the carbon did a 25% water change and still nothing is helping. I was told to drain the water and redo it but im afraid that will wipe out everything. Current inhabitants a few soft coral and a couple of fish. What should i do? plz help

I sure would not start over.

Do not feed for a couple days and leave the lights out, make sure the tank is not getting any natural light.

I would also increase oxygenation by causing more surface agitation or adding another power head. Looks like you need more O2.

That is where I would start.

You have to do the no light for at least 3 days. Your corals and fish will be fine if the water quality is good.

I see a lot of surface protein in the image, that is sign to me that you do not have enough surface agitation or reduced O2 which can be a big problem during algae and bacterial blooms.

How long has this tank been up and running? Looks relatively young.

Your phosphates are too high, are you using RO/DI water?

Keep testing the ammonia and other parameters to make sure it's not a bacterial bloom, did any inverts go missing?

Ok I read that wrong. Good phos is 0.

Two months old is still cycling IMO even if you have no detectable ammonia and nitrites.

Tangs eat a lot and should eat a lot, tank is probably to young to handle that.

Sounds like a bacterial bloom. Common with new tanks that have just cycled or still xyccling. Should clear up on its own. But may take a week or so. Reduce feeding to minimal amount.
