Hi, I need help! a week ago the base of my Toadstool Leather appeared to have been injured it looked like an open wound.. I really didn't pay too much attention because it's polyps were still showing every day! Then 2 days ago it started to shrink and the base where it was injured looked like it was rotting, but still its polyps would show in the day, now I arrived today to see it almost detached from its rock! what is happening? i will post a before picture and how its right now! please help!

with a really sharp knife cut it above the damaged area and prop it on a rock, or get a BBQ stick and stab through the bottom part of the stem(after you cut) and tie the two end of the stick on a rock. I would say give it a week, and it should attach itself back. Don't worry if the polyp doesn't come out right away.

The stem is dieing from the bottom toward the top, but you should be able to frag the cap and save it.

If you ever see necrosis like that occurring in the future, a dip in Lugol's Solution is often helpful (before it really spreads like this).

Yes don't touch it. It may take several days to open again. It will take at least a few weeks to fully attach. Good luck.8)
