I just upgraded from a 4x65 watt CF to a retro kit, 2x250 watt HQI MH with 2x54 watt T5's. The MH bulbs are Hamilton 14k in a parabolic reflector with UV glass, the T5's both have parabolic reflectors. Here's the link of the kit I purchased:

    48" 2x250W HQI Metal Halide/ 2x54W T5 Fluorescent - 250254

    Lighting schedule right now:

    T5'S 8AM-10:30AM
    MH1 10AM-2PM
    MH2 12PM-4PM
    T5'S 3:30PM-10PM

The fish seem to be extremely happy and energetic, they aren't hiding in the rock or acting aggresive or anxious.

I have a Branching Hammer in the top 1/3 of the tank, a Frog Spawn in the middle and a Fox Coral on the bottom with purple mushrooms scattered through out the middle and bottom on the right side of the tank. The BH and FS seem tentacles are retracted but the truck that attatches to the skeletal base is full and swollen. The Fox is retracted and seems to be wilting as do the mushrooms.

Should I turn both MH on for a shorter period like 4 hrs total? I really like the sunrise/sunset effect of when one light turns on, then both on, then first one off, then the second off. Maybe I should just shorten this time period?

I also have the T5's off while the MH's are on to reduce the amount of light during the acclimation process, I plan on eventually leaving them on all day.

I think the mushrooms are so hardy that they could live in sewer water and will be able to adjust, I'm concerned about the other coral.

What do you guys think I should do...

Cut back the MH to 4 hours or less a day then add a hour each week. T5 keep on 8 to 8.

Corals come from the tropics mainly so they don't get more than 13 hours of light a day.
You light schedule is courting an algae outbreak.

Should I keep the T5's on the entire "on cycle"? I have been turning them off while the MH's are on. My thinking was to reduce the shock to the system by reducing the amount of light.

Especially since I'm upgrading from a crappy 4 bulb compact flourescent light to this awesome MH/T5 retro system. ;D
