I have a PFO dual 250w MH ballast. One of the toggle switches is bad and stuck on. I want to replace it but I can't find the exact amp switch and PFO won't send me a switch, they want the ballast sent to them. Yeah right. Ain't paying someone else to pop a switch out and put a new one in, not to mention the shipping...
Anyway the switch is 13amp @ 125vac. I can find clip in switches the same dimension but not amps. They are either lower or higher amp switches @ 125. I'm guessing higher rated amps switch is safer to substitute with. Am I right or does it even matter?

Forgot to mention all of the switches I found r local. I can find the same switch online for 2 bucks but shipping would drive the price to $6 and up.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
reefmonkey I just hard wired the switch on my MH ballast. Went to Radio shack and Checker auto but they did not have a 20amps and 120vac. Now I have seen the same switch available at boat hardware stores, but I do not have one locally. If you do have a boating store local you may want to check it out.

If the switch is stuck on, it shouldn't really be a problem if you just have it hooked up to a timer. unless i'm missing something, I keep my ballast switches on and my RKL controls them on and off.

A higher amp rated switch would be suitable...

I thought about leaving it and just let the controller turn them on and off but it would bug my perfectionist mind to no end. lol
Also the ballast will be on a tank in a business so for insurance reasons all of the equipment will need to be tip top.

He's correct. Any higher rated switch will work fine.

If you used a lower rated switch, the load would melt the switch very quickly. As long as the switch is rated for higher than the load, it will not fail.
