I just had the store manager deliver and set up my 90 gallon Tank. He switched everything over from my 56 gallon that I was using a Fluval G6 for.

New Equipment: Eshoppe RS 100, Reef Octopus IN 1000 super skimmer. 950 GPH Pondmaster pump. Fluval reef lighting.

I paid him a hefty sum of money and am left with the following problems. The tank is very noisy as the water flows into the sock. It also seems to surge. I cut the inflow hose down so it goes directly from the corner overflow straight down to the RS 100. That didn't help. It seems to surge but not a lot. The "bubbling" noise is more noticeable than the surge. I think the protein skimmer is too large since it barely fits in the sump. I also discovered that it had to be raised a lot and if it sits in more than 5 inches of water it goes crazy.

I had the skimmer "calmed down," until I changed the sock-a suggestion by the manager who installed it. His thought was that the sock got dirty with all the sand added when the tank was switched over. Now unless it is in 4 inches or so of water it goes bubble crazy.

The fish etc seemed to take the change OK but i am going as crazy as the skimmer trying to get the tank to stop gurgling, and the skimmer to settle down.

I keep calling the store manager and he offers some help, but now when I call he is "busy." Thus my overly long post. Any ideas about the tank-It's a standard marine-land 90 with corner flow. Any any thoughts on the skimmer-wil it go nuts every time i change anything in the sump??

    Thanks in advance.

Would you be able to take pictures of the sump (where the water enters) and inside the overflow box?

I'm sure there are many on here that help with the plumbing/flow question. In terms of the skimmer, if it is new, it will take a while to break in so once things are settled with your plumbing issue, then that will help it calm down over about 5-7 days.

^^^correct. If your skimmer has a drain, take it off so that the water drains back into the sump. The skimmer needs to be broken in. If I leave my bubble magus skimmer off for over an hour, it will go nuts for a while. I'd be willing to bet after a day or 2 bubbling over, it will settle down so that you can tune it.

It seems the "surging " is coming from the water going into the holes in the drain pipe in the overflow. The problem is that the holes are not far enough below the water line so the "sucking' sound is the water flowing into the hole. It would seem easy to lower the height of the pipe, but for whatever reason as I lower the pipe, (it is designed to be adjustable), the water level in the overflow goes down proportionately. This means that no matter how much I try to get the "holes" well below the water line the level in the overflow lowers with the pipe.

There has to be a simple solution> I am too new to this to figure out what that solution might be.

I wil take a few pictures and post them here Maybe that can help someone figure out the solution.

    Thanks

As you can see, the Skimmer looks pretty massive. I think the platform is the right height. They(the manufacturer) recommends 5.5 inches, thought my skimmer is at less than 5. Thus far i have gotten the overflow to stop, I hope it stays that way.

I "custom made" a hose for the return so it runs straight down-That didn't help. I chafed the "sock,-that didn't help. I adjusted the pump(it's a 750 GPH_-That dint help.

As I said I think the surge is because the holes in the return pipe are to close to the surface, but there seems to be no way to get it any deeper, since the water level follows the pipe height in the overflow.

    I am hoping the
