check your phosphates. it could also be something in your water. get alot of snails and hermits to help keep it down. how old are your bulbs? how long do you run them? is the tank in direct sunlight? post pics.

My tank is about 7 months old. i have 50 pounds of live rock , a powder blue , clown fish , 2 soft corals , and 5 hermit crabs...My water is perfect. The bulbs in my light are at least a year old. I have a 36 inch MarineLand metal halide... so do you guys think the bulbs could be the reason for this? And if so where could i get new ones? Thanks for the help!! It is a 65 gallon tank.

Your light most likely is the greatest culprit. Reefgeeks would be a good place to start. You most likely also need to increase circulation, cut back on feeding, add GFO to your filtration, clean and change your filter materials weekly. Look into getting a ro/di unit if you don't have one already. This will eliminate nitrates and phosphates from your tap water. LFS water is usually just filtered not ro/di.

(Just a quick question...) What exactly does GFO(granular ferric oxide) do? I know about nitrate sponge, phos. sponge, and carbon, Which help reduce phosphates and nitrates. What exactly is GFO doing?
