I am having a VERY hard time finding algae eaters for my discus tank. Either they can't take the higher temps, they eat the plants, they may hurt the discus or they may spook the discus if they move too quickly.

I do not live in a large city so my choices are limited.

    PLEASE HELP ME !

Are any snails a viable option? Olive nerites maybe?

Great site for livestock and they have a 15 day guarantee. I use them often and they are very efficient at getting refunds for livestock that arrives dead or do not survive the first 15 days. It has only happened to me once and I have gotten a lot of livestock through them. Everything arrives quickly and is healthy. You should be able to find something on there that won't harm your discus

I live in Canada. I know of no company that ships fish. I've read that the best ( although not perfect ) is the siamese algae eater. They will tolerate the warmer temperatures & leave the plants alone. The only problem is they move quickly & may spook the discus. Two siamese algae eaters are recommended for each 15 gallons. I know my pet store has these. What do you think ?

If they are the same as the Chinese algae eaters they sell down here they won't help much in my opinion. All they have ever done in my tanks was out compete the main attractions for any bit of food put in the tanks and rarely ever grazed on the algae I was trying to control :(

Have you checked with John at reefcleaners for suggestions? I know his business is salt water oriented but I bet he has a fair amount of fresh water knowledge as well.

I have heard that siamese algae eaters are much better than the Chinese variety. Does anyone know if this is true or not ?
