I am very new at this so I am hoping this is not too silly of a question. My tank is 1 month old and water params came ito line so I took the plunge and got 2 green chromis's and 2 red and 2 blue leg hermits along with 2 turbo snails. So far all is right with the tank. My question is 2 of my hermit crabs seem to have what appears to be feather dusters or tube worms (I think that is what they are called). Each has one on them. Is this normal? Is it possible to remove them for placement elsewhere in the tank? Should i remove and just discard? They are very small but maybe they will grow.

    Any help would be great.

If they are feather dusters or tube worms, more likely tube worms just leave them will not do any harm. Keep your calcuim, alk, and mag up to par and they will grow. They are filter feeders.

that's pretty cool. don't worry about taking them off to place them smewhere else in the tank. leave them on there and soon you will have more around the tank.

i have tube worms on one of my snails. i had what i thought was tiny feather dusters at first on some of my rock but it actually turned out to be a type of jellyfish. theyre all good things.

I think that the fact that the feather dusters? are on the hermit crabs will enable not only camouflage for the hermit but a more efficient way of the feather receiving water movement and better chance for trapping foods in the form of particulate matter!
