My hermit molted last week, is larger and in a bigger shell. I picked up a pretty green finger leather a few days after, came home from work last night to the hermit feasting on the remains of my leather- all that was left was the rock it was fragged to and a bunch of black gunk in the tank! I have evicted the crab, he's in tupperware right now. My colt coral is looking very pale, and wilted, and the frogspawn isn't coming out much today. Is my tank "toxic" now, or is it just the remains of the crab abuse? (Sorry, no pic, there's nothing left to take a picture of!)

    The crab didn't cause that.

When you say green finger leather, do you mean Sinularia? If so, were you running carbon to stop the chemical warfare?

I was told it was a lobophyton- does that help? And, no carbon- if I had a misidentified species, am I in danger of losing the tank?:uneasy:

I'd run carbon and do a water change.

Big water change? And, are the other corals (I only have a mushroom, toadstool, frogspawn, colt and zoo) in trouble? Should I keep the hermit- he's probably in a 3 inch shell? Ohhhh, the panic is setting in...:-/

I'm really new at this---so take what I say with a grain of salt. I don't think your hermit is to blame, mine never eat the corals. I believe that leather corals can release toxins, that is why I suggested a water change and running carbon. I belive that should protect your other corals. Jean
