Do any of you put hermit crabs in you refuge to help eat any food that may get in it?

I have one in there. My fuge is partitioned into a chaeto section and a rock section. Banished him to the rock section because he was getting to big and knocking corals all over the place. :)

    I don't... but I wouldn't be against it either.

I do have a small neon goby though. He kept going down the overflow, so I just left him.

from what i understand your refugium is excatly as it sounds, a refuge. so by putting a crab in it would not hurt anything. you will want to stay away from putting anything in it that will start to all your pods, such as corals.

I do. The little *******s keep eating my snails. Every time I find one I send it down there. I don't care if it lives or dies.

Blue. A few showed up in my order by accident and I didn't think anything about it, but soon after I found empty shells and hermits in snail shells.

I was having this problem too but I Like keeping hermits because they do a great job cleaning small areas my turbos can't reach. So I followed the advice from a friend and added 20-25 small to large shells to the tank, scattered about so they would be easy to find. After I did this, I noticed that the majority of the hermits moved to a bigger home overnight. Its been about a month since I added the shells and I have yet to find a missing snail/herm.
