As for feeding I just drop in a cheap 5.00 feeder green star every 5 or 6 weeks for a large pair and if you have just one a regular size feeder star or chocolate chip will feed a single one for up wards of 10 weeks plus. They inject a sleepy time venom :skull: into their food and induce a coma and eat in from a leg to about mid way then shift to another the Central disk is the last they eat. Feed and forget and when they get hungry again you see them out and about. I think your last one did not make it through the molt.. Thats when they are vulnerable to anything or type of predation from another critter . Watching them grab and haul their food is half the fun of owning them . Like little soldiers out they come a marching as soon as food hits the water Boom they are on it.

Wow, amcarrig, it is surprisingly easy to figure out if its female or male!!!!!
"The male is slightly smaller than the female. The female has blue tipped abdominal legs, while the legs of the male are transparent". Thats a quote from Pet Education and Dr. foster and Smith . Here are the links
    Harlequin Shrimp (Hymenocera picta)
    http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=749&N=0

Heres a picture of a pair, male and female in this link
    Harlequin Shrimp

But in that persons site, he said the oposite than pet education, That the male has blue legs and the female has transparent. More reaserch being done!!!

not sure if this will help you but the Female Harlequin Shrimp are slightly larger than males. Females also have blue tips on their abdominal legs, while males have transparent legs.

Here's a pic of my pair. If I'm not mistaken, the one that remains is on the right. I can't see the legs on the shrimp on the left :(

I can't say because I'm not at home. I'll have to check that out and get back to you tonight.

As for yours, I would wait about 2-3 weeks before offering another starfish. The shrimp might possibly need to molt before it eats again.
