    Hi,

Complete novice, first timer, newbie, etc etc. Really just searching for advice and inspiration. After years of threatening to, i have finally taken the big step into the marine world!!!

Currently have a juwel 190ltr corner tank (the biggest i could sneak into the house under the wifes radar!!) and here comes my first problem.

I would say i have done my reserch when it comes to starting up from scratch and i have not jumped in blind. Only real piece of advice i cant find the anser too is positioning of live rock in a corner unit that is not going to create stagnant areas within the tank.....does anyone else have a corner unit.....and can offer advice.

    Thanks.

Welcome to 3reef! Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with a corner tank. I would think the ideal situation would be to have powerheads on each side, as well as one on the front glass pointing towards the rear. This would be very unpleasant to the eye though. So the other option is to have powerheads on the sides pointing towards the opposite side so the flow bounces off towards the rear of the tank. Interested to see how it actually turns out though!

    Welcome to 3reef.

Perhaps post an image so we can see what you are working with.

I personally have seen a corner tank that had a small power head just like sitting in the rocks in the back pointing down just to keep flow in there. But it depends on what your working with. Pictures would be great it possible.

    A fellow corner tanker! :)

Is it a corner round or a corner pentagon?

Getting good flow has been trial and error, but I've just about got it. I have one small patch of cyano left and made an adjustment to one powerhead tonight that I hope clears it up.

You can see my power head placement in the build thread of my signature. I currently have four power heads (total of 40x tank volume), but only two run at a time. I have them paired with a wavemaker, which run on 30 second cycles. I have two that are near the water surface and about 1/2 way out from the corner of each side facing each other (Call them left and right pump 1). The other two are out near the ends of each side and slightly lower. These are angled up and towards the middle of the tank (Call them left and right pump 2). I have them on the wavemakers so that left pump 1 is paired with right pump 2 and vice versa. That way, the two top pumps run at the same time and create turbulence high in the tank and the two outer pumps also cycle at the same time and create turbulence in the front/middle of the tank. I have them on 30 second cycles and stagger the start by 10 seconds. With that, I sometimes have both pumps on one side of the tank running and the other part of the cycle the opposing pumps are running.

As far as rock goes, I built my scape in an arc that kind of follows the shape of the back sides and kept it about 3-4" off the back wall. This keeps the flow path open, but also give the fish a place to swim behind the rocks if there's activity in front of the tank that's spooking them.

Good luck and feel free to PM me if you need more detail.
