I have some long hair brown algae...will the blue leg eat it?
Can I just run my 450nm for a couple weeks and it die out?
What is the answer for my prob. It is getting sorta bad....
Thank you very much for your time....

My blue legs nibble on it, but the 30 or so I have in my 125 would in no way be able to tame a large established outbreak. I'm constantly scrubbing that junk off my glass and rocks. I've developed such a complex with it, anytime I see a fuzzy snail I pull it and scrub with my mini purple ariel toothbrush my stepdaughter donated to the cause. I'm having issues in a fallow tank that gets fed 1 cube of krill every other day for my sun polyps, and 2x week phyto / marine snow for my other corals.

im embarrassed to say i actually add, yes ADD, hair algae to my tank....every two weeks i throw in about 2 handfuls and a rock or two covered in HA.......its eaten in about 2 secs by my tang and any that does escape is handled by my hermits...they will completely clean a rock overnight. i rent my people out if ure interested ;)

    Hi Danny

cutting back on all lights for a few days, even throwing a blanket over said darkened tank, has worked/ been effective many times for many people and having done this myself I can tell you after 4 days, the tank looked brand new, and all the corals survived (softies and LPS - nothing from the advanced list of species)

but its not the end of the story, otherwise in a few weeks your back where you started from

Phosphates are often at the root of algae issues along with their partner in reef crime Nitrates

do you run a phosphate reactor? or any phosphate removal media in a filter?

work on depriving the algae of the nurtients it needs and couple this with the Actinic only regime for 3 or 4 days - and you can relegate algae to the past

    been there, done that

Algae free now for 12 months ( Micro on the tank glass and rocks dont count!)

    Steve

I HATE DEATH METAL...they hardest rock I like is Zepplin.....
They closest to death would be the strangeness of Alice Cooper and his Dead Babies....THat was weird but he served his pupose back in the day.....I might just eat the algae myself....

Reading back through this, I think we all are way too ahead of ourselves. I mean, no pics here. First off, lets verify that this is indeed hippie algae.
Does the algae were only birkenstocks or go barefoot? Does the algae enjoy hacky-sack or frisby? Does the algae have a severe case of smugness due to owning a hybrid? Or maybe the algae has really long, matted hair and hasn't showered since 1987? Does the algae only wear tie-dye?
