    hi all-

Alittle bit ago i noticed what looked like a snail without its shell crawling around on some of my rocks. I went to google and am pretty sure that they are stomatellas, could they of came in with the live sand that i added. I put in 2 pieces of LR last week but took them out only after a couple of hrs because of the majano infestation. anyway alot of info on the web says that they are fine, but some said that they reproduce very quickly and can get out of control..... was just wondering what u guys had to say.....thanx as always!

You'll be fine, they do reproduce quite fast but are harmless and free! They are probably the fastest snail I have ever seen too!

It came from the live rock, and is safe and a good member of your clean up crew.

Yeah I have 2 in my tank right now. A little baby one and a one that's about 1.25". My tank is only about 2 weeks old so I'm positive they came from the LR I bought. It seems they graze on my rocks all the time. I have to agree, these snails have NOS under the shell...super speedy!

Yep, good algae eater. They'll breed easily, but not sure about the getting out of control part. Maybe if you had out of control algae LOL.

    Good guys,

Their population will be limited by available food source, usually film algae. They will do a great job on your rocks at night. Sometimes during the day you can see little puffs of smoking coming from your rock work, they would be them spawning. If you have hermits they eat the small ones up pretty quickly. Since I go rid of my hermits I have hundreds out at night eating on rocks and glass.

    hey corailline-

thanx for the reply.... i was watching them lastnite atm i see 2, it would be cool if they would reproduce, but i do have plenty of hermits so i guess that will be a problem... but o well it will be interesting to see what happens.
